(Citizens are always complaining about something, so I just ignore them.) Since the game measures your food reserves by how much is stored in Granaries, you will receive warnings that your food reserves are low, but it is a false warning and doesn’t affect game play. I have built entire cities without a single Granary using this feature. Storage Yards hold the same amount of food as a Granary, but they are smaller and cost less. The food that we grow can then be stored in Storage Yards.

Some of us use this “feature” to advantage by opening up a trade route to import a food that we also grow, and setting the import limit to zero. If you are importing a food type that you also grow, then the Bazaars will pick up all of this type of food from Storage Yards. You don’t have to transfer imported food to Granaries. You can set your Granary to “get” the excess food from the “accepting” Storage Yard.īazaars will buy imported food directly from a Storage Yard. If you have an accepting Storage Yard, all of the cart pushers will leave the flood plain. When the harvest comes, and there isn’t enough room in the Granaries for all of the food that was harvested, the cart pushers will stay on the farms and drown when the flood comes. It is sometimes helpful to have one Storage Yard in your city set to accept ¼ of each type of food that you grow. After the Storage Yard is full, the remainder will go to the Granary.īazaars will not buy food from a Storage Yard unless it is imported, so you want the food that you grow to go to a Granary. If you have both Storage Yards and Granaries set to accept food, the food will go to the Storage Yard first. Storage Yards have a higher priority than Granaries do. Once you've completed the tutorial missions, if you don't feel like continuing with your "family history" then go back to the sandbox. For example, the first one (Nubt) involves housing, water, hunting, and food distribution. They are (in my opinion) quite good tutorials that introduce basic concepts gradually. Houses stock a lot of food, so the first several loads taken to the bazaar are likely to quickly disappear into houses-some of them may evolve to a higher level, but a few shanties may not be noticed among a bunch of huts.īy the way, I recommend playing the first half-dozen "family history" missions, in order. If you are playing the original (non-Cleopatra) "unpatched" Pharaoh (v1.0), then try running the road along an entire edge of the granary.)Īlso, check to see if any houses have food. (Years ago, I remember people saying that the road had to touch one of the non-corner tiles of the granary, but that doesn't seem to be the case in my game. If houses passed by a trader from a bazaar with food have evolved to sturdy huts (which require water), then at least some of them should get food (and, if the neighborhood isn't too undesirable, evolve to houses better than huts). If a granary contains food, if the granary has a road connection to a bazaar, if the bazaar is set to buy that food, if both buildings are fully staffed, if neither building is touching a second (unconnected) road, and if the distance from the north tile of the bazaar to the north tile of the granary is less than 40 tiles, then a buyer from the bazaar should go get the food (eventually, usually within a few months).

Can anyone suggest a help link on this topic, or does anyone see a problem I'm overlooking? Thanks in advance. I have experimented with the various settings for bazaars, granaries and storage yards to store/purchase food and goods, but nothing I do seems to result in the proper functioning of bazaars. When I check bazaar access in the Overlays, all my housing appears to be scavenging instead of receiving goods through the distribution system. But my bazaars never seem to have anything to sell, thus my housing isn't evolving beyond a very low level (I forget the name, but it may be "sturdy dwelling" or something similar). My granaries fill up as they should, my storage yards accept harvests and pottery, etc., so that all seems to be working. But I think I'm having a basic problem with food and goods distribution.

After a false start where I pretty much played by instinct (poorly), I completed the first three missions on Easy level after studying the manual and reading this site. I'm currently working on the fourth sandbox mission. Right now I'm looking for some assistance on the topic named above. Just want to note that I've already found some good help here on basic housing design-the site and forums are great for new players. Hello all! I'm a total newbie here, and have been playing Pharaoh/Cleopatra only a couple of days.
